History
50 Years Of Experience
Haymes Brothers, Inc. was founded in 1965 by brothers Bill and Charlie Haymes. At the time, they primarily worked as a residential sewer and septic installation contractor operating in Danville, VA and surrounding areas.
As the brothers' reputation for honesty and quality workmanship grew in the residential sector, opportunities to perform related commercial work developed. Soon the brothers were sub-contracting with larger construction companies to build concrete headwalls, box culverts and paved ditches.
By the early 1970's the Haymes Brothers equipment fleet, expertise, and manpower grew such that they were able to successfully bid and perform various site-work projects. From grading and excavating to concrete bridge and dam construction, HBI was transforming from a residential contractor to a well-respected heavy civil contractor.
Bill's son Andy and Charlie's son Chuck were involved with Haymes Brothers since their early childhood. Throughout late adolescence and early manhood, both boys worked their way through the ranks with the eventual goal of following in their fathers' footsteps. By the late 1990s, Andy and Chuck earned leadership roles in the company as the head of the concrete division and the site preparation division, respectively.
In 2001 Andy and Chuck purchased the company from their fathers and the company has continued to grow and prosper. Payroll ranges from 180-250 employees, dependent on the workload.
Leadership
President
C.O Haymes, Jr. "Chuck"
Chuck grew up in the company but began to work officially in 1987 as an equipment operator. From there he worked his way through the ranks of HBI, learning each job as he progressed. In the early 1990’s he was promoted to foreman and superintendent shortly thereafter. Over the last 28 years Chuck oversaw many simultaneous multimillion dollar projects including earthen dams and state highway projects. He also gained experience with privately funded site grading projects, which included the successful management of more than 100 employees, multiple sub-contractors, and a large equipment fleet at one time.
Chuck has supervised more than a dozen earthen dam construction projects during his career with HBI, all of which required multi-zoned embankment and sand and drain filters. Chuck was intricately involved in and served as overall project superintendent for most these dam projects. As his expertise grew he became involved in the pre-bid investigations of projects as well as the bid process.
In 2001 Chuck became President of Haymes Brothers, Inc. He is the chief field operations supervisor, and continues to manage the field operations of multiple simultaneous projects.
